Barcelona Part 3 - Food & Art

Barcelona Baluard Cafe Bakery Blog Post Review

Finally, part 3 of Barcelona, the smells and sight. Exploring the lanes, tucked away, from the main high-street, are the indicative smells of fresh baked goods and strong coffee. Miles away from that of England, not in a literal sense, but in the means of quality and taste. On further exploration of the Spanish city, I was overwhelmed by the amount of dedication to art it withholds. Of course, I was going to snap every part of this magical city and that had to include both the art and food! So scroll on to see a-not-so city girl's exploration of all things aesthetic; in terms of food and art.

Let me begin with Baluard, Barcelona (as seen in the picture above). If, like me, you wake up craving the taste of baked goods; you must visit this cafe on a trip to Barcelona. After searching for great bakeries on TripAdvisor (this being #3 in Cafe's), we quickly got our map out and rushed to the metro. After a long walk and a lot of getting lost, we sniffed it out. The smell of the freshly made bread was soaring down the lane. On entering, we were faced with every baked item in the history of baked items. Cakes, pastries, breads, sandwiches & many more... Not only that, as we were sitting enjoy a sandwich, from freshly made bread encompassed with dried orange and nuts and prosciutto ham, cheese and rocket inside, we were watching the bread/pastries being made beside us..

Moving on to sweeties. Frequently, I noticed many of these amazing sweet shops bearing every piece of candy that exists. Happy Pills. This kooky shop was located right next to the cathedral, confusing to the eye, but not of city life. You could pick yourself up a pot of all the sweets you desire and love for only 4.5 €.

Now lets shy away from the beautiful pastries and multicoloured sweeties and progress onto art. Next to the cathedral, we wandered into a little shop full of art. From paintings to sculptures. If I had the money, and the room in my luggage, I would of easily picked up one of the paintings. They were so different and eye-catching. But what took are eye to enter such a spectacular sight was the fantastical sculptures outside (that were made out of tiny mosaic mirrors). The art gallery is called 'Exposicio D'Art'

Barcelona as the city of Gaudi is, evidently, renowned for it's artistic ways. It is also a city of many aspiring artists. It's mesmerising.

If you've been to Barcelona and feel as passionately as me about the beauty it withholds. Leave a comment below. Or if you want to hear more about where is best to eat or the best Museums/art galleries, leave me a comment.
